Mjolisi

Mjolisi, born Malibongwe Prince Gwala on 1 May 2000 in KwaZulu-Natal is a South African Maskandi artist. From a young age he was drawn to traditional Zulu music and during high school began experimenting with singing and acoustic performances. After finishing school he committed fully to music and began working on a career in Maskandi.

He released his first official single, Usizi, in 2021. This early release did not immediately make a major impact. In 2022 he released the single Akalele in tribute to Shimora. Over the next few years he continued working on his sound and building his catalogue.

In 2024 he broke through with the release of Umkami Sengalile, a song that attracted millions of streams, and My Dululufeaturing another artist. My Dululu reached over a million streams within two weeks of release. The success of these songs lifted him to prominence in the Maskandi scene, and he has since become regarded as one of the rising voices shaping the genre today.

In 2025 he was preparing a new Maskandi album. In the months leading up to that release he completed collaborations and guest appearances, signalling his growing ambition and productivity. He has earned recognition for bringing youthful energy and a modern sensibility to traditional Maskandi music.

Mjolisi remains committed to his roots even as he evolves stylistically. His music blends heartfelt vocals, traditional rhythms and contemporary influences. He continues to build his career and contribute to a revival of Maskandi among younger listeners.
