Miseka Gaqa

Bio

Miseka Gaqa is a South African award winning singer. She is a resident member of an Afro-fusion Jazz group called Iphupho L’ka Biko. Her musical journey dates back to her high school days when she represented her school and achieved first position for her solo work at district level and second position at the regional level.

She has performed for Todd Matshikiza’s King Kong production at the South African State Theatre with the Soweto Young Voices. She was also part of an ensemble which performed and selected national anthems on ETV’s Sunrise programme during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The group also did pieces for Imizwilili and performed with the Gauteng Choristers choir at the late President Mandela’s funeral.

In 2016, she was awarded a SAMRO/Elizabeth Connell Prize for best vocal student at Wits University, where she’s pursuing her post studies in music. Miss Gaqa is also the winner of City Festival Award in 2011 for best Saprano Soloist and pocketed R10 000 in cash prize. She’s worked with internationally recognized productions namely King Kong and Ushaka Ka Senzangakhona, Mozart’s Requiem, The Coronation Mass to name a few. She featured at the international French Music concert (Fete De La Musique) by the accomplished and seasoned accordion player Daniel Mille; they rendered a thrilling performance which received a full house standing ovation. The duo worked together again at the Grahamstown National Art Festival.
