Merchah

Merchah, born Uchizi Salala Msowoya, is a rising 19-year-old Malawian Afro-pop and Afro-fusion artist from Mzuzu, Malawi. Born in 2003, he has quickly emerged as one of the promising young voices in Malawi’s music scene, gaining recognition for his vibrant sound, soulful melodies, and captivating musical storytelling.

Raised in Mzuzu, Merchah is a former student of Chaminade Secondary School and began his musical journey at a young age. Influenced by a pastoral upbringing, he developed a deep connection to music and storytelling, which later shaped his artistic direction. Although he started experimenting with music in 2016, he began gaining momentum in 2018, marking the beginning of his rise in the Malawian music industry.

Known for hits such as "Naji" and "SAZA," Merchah has steadily built a growing fanbase with his Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, and dancehall-inspired sound. His music is characterized by vibrant rhythms, soulful melodies, and relatable themes that resonate with both local and international audiences. His breakthrough came between 2022 and 2023, when tracks like "SAZA" and "Naji" gained significant attention, alongside his feature on "Samagona" from Kell Kay’s album.

Merchah has also collaborated with notable artists including Namadingo, Kell Kay, and Tsar Leo, further solidifying his place in the industry. His collaborations and performances have contributed to his growing reputation as one of Malawi’s emerging talents to watch.

In 2024, Merchah reached new milestones as his music gained major streaming success. His collaborations, including work with Namadingo, helped him reach wider audiences, while the "OBEBA" music video surpassed 1 million views on YouTube, marking a significant achievement in his career.

Inspired by global Afro-fusion star Burna Boy, Merchah aims to create music that bridges local Malawian sounds with international standards. With ambitions of winning a Grammy and representing Malawi on the global stage, Merchah continues to grow as an artist, positioning himself as one of the most promising young talents in African music today.
