Mdu Masilela
Bio
Mduduzi Masilela, born April 25 1970 in Zola, Soweto, South Africa, better known as Mdu. Mdu is a renowned musician and record producer known for his unique style of Kwaito music. He started his music career in the early 1990s and rose to prominence in the late 1990s with his hit single "Stokvel." MDU Masilela has released several albums over the years and has collaborated with other notable artists in the South African music industry, this includes a group he formed with late kwaito star Tokollo “Magesh” tshabalala, Sibusiso “S'bu” Ntshangase and Pro Ngubane in 1995. They released the EP "Hey Kop" in 1995 and earned a reputation in the kwaito scene, especially with "Is Fokol Is Niks". Mdu produced some of the best kwaito music in the genre, this includes William Bongani Makhubela “Mawilies”, and Makapkap. Mdu has won several awards for his contributions to the music industry, including the South African Music Award for Best Kwaito Album in 2001. Aside from music, MDU Masilela is also involved in entrepreneurship and owns a record label called "911 Entertainment."
