Bio
Masiye Kalso Kasaru (born 20 November 1985) is an Afro-pop and RnB musician from Dedza, Malawi. He wrote his first song in February 2000. Popularly known as Maskal, Masiye shot to fame following the release of his song ‘Udalire’. The track did well on local charts and got him nominated in two categories at the 2011 Malawian Music Awards. The two categories were Best Male and Best RnB. He managed to win one category, Best Male Award.
His debut appearance was on Young Kay's ‘Utawaleza’, ‘Photobook’ and ‘Mamvelamvela’ songs. He is signed to Nde'feyo Entertainment record label.
He has performed at many local concerts and shows. He was the country's fourth artist to perform at popular TV reality show Big Brother Africa. He has shared the stage with U.S' Sean Kingston when he toured the country, UK’s Beverly Knight and The Foals, Sweden’s The Very Best, South Africa’s Freshlygrounds and Zahara, Nigeria’s 2 Face Idibia. Back home, he has performed with Lucius Banda, Black Missionaries and Edgar ndi Davis and many among others.
He has headlined major local music events such as the Lake of Stars Arts Festival and the Blantyre Arts Festival.
