Mashamplani

Bio

Mashamplani was a phenomenal kwaito group that offered us music from 1995 to 2001. The original formation of the group had Mduduzi “Mdu” Masilela, Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala, Sibusiso “S’bu” Ntshangase and Pro ngubane. This early version of Mashamplan shook up the kwaito game with trail blazing tracks like album title “Hey Kop”, “Is Vokol Is Nix” and “Kite”. The album “Hey Kop” became the sound track of the early to mid 90’s in Kwaito music. In 1996 the original group split up, with Tokollo and S’bu going on to have great success as solo kwaito artists. In 1996 Mdu reformed the group with new members Tshidiso, Peppa, Mjakes, and Tumi, this group went on to release six studio albums between 1996 and 2001, this being “Kunjalo Kunjalo” in 1996, then “Lost And Found” in 1997, in 1998 they release “Neva Neva” this was followed by “4 Eva” in 1999. In 2001 they gave us “Angeke”. Although no notable awards, the two versions of the group were a major catalyst in the genre being a solid music style that stood on its own with great sonic offerings that made music and “fun” sense.
