Maria Gakenye

Maria Gakenye is a Kenyan Vocalist, songwriter and composer. She is pursuing Jazz Studies at the South African College of Music(SACM)- the University of Cape Town. Gakenye is a diverse singer who yearns to share a part of herself in music and storytelling through song. This young vocalist embodies an African spirit in her music drawing influence from traditional African music and aesthetics, Jazz and soul.

Gakenye has performed in concerts such as the Khweva run- Africa Dusk. She is the founder of the annual concert titled 'The Music Box' which has run three editions since its birth in 2019.
