Bio
Manjul (born Julien Souletie in Paris, 1976) is an acclaimed French reggae multi-instrumentalist, singer, audio engineer, and producer known for bridging roots reggae and traditional Malian music.
Musical Journey
- Roots: Raised in the multicultural 18th district of Paris, he was heavily impacted by reggae culture during childhood.
- Island Travels: He relocated to Reunion Island and Mayotte in the Indian Ocean before fully settling in Africa.
- Malian Hub: Since 2001, he has been based in Bamako, Mali, establishing himself as a fixture of the West African reggae scene.
The Humble Ark Studio
Manjul founded the Humble Ark recording studio in Bamako. Through this creative headquarters, he has mixed traditional West African instruments (such as the ngoni and fulani flute) with deep Jamaican dub rhythm sections. He has engineered, produced, or backed notable global and African artists:
