Malcolm Mzwakhe Mathe, professionally known as Malcomplicated, is a multifaceted South African musician, renowned for his exceptional skills as a multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and DJ. Born on 15 March in Nyongane, a village in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, Malcomplicated's musical odyssey commenced in 2008, when he discovered his passion for drumming. By the age of 14, he had mastered the bass guitar, showcasing his talents within his local church community.

Influential figures, such as Stanley Matsane, who inspired his love for the bass guitar, and Thobane Macitheka, who taught him fundamental music principles and piano skills, played pivotal roles in shaping Malcomplicated's musical trajectory. In his youth, he opted to rebrand himself as "Malcomplicated," reflecting his belief in the unique, self-taught nature of his musical abilities. The suffix "Complicated" symbolises his intricate and innovative approach to music.

Despite lacking formal music training, Malcomplicated acquired knowledge through self-directed learning, exploring music theory, watching YouTube tutorials, and absorbing insights from fellow DJs. In 2022, DJ ZonkePH mentored him in the basics of DJing, which he subsequently developed through dedicated practice. Malcomplicated ventured into music production in 2015, diligently honing his craft.

His discography commenced with the release of his debut single, "Thikini," featuring Lerik and D2_Goon, in 2018. Following a brief hiatus to refine his production skills, he returned in 2020 with the soulful track "Lidukile," featuring Mkhuzeni. This song garnered acclaim for its organic sound, which Malcomplicated produced entirely independently.

Malcomplicated's distinctive musical style blends an array of genres, including dance, soul, hip-hop, gospel, and jazz. His work is influenced by his philosophical beliefs in the Nation of Gods and Earths, as well as his exploration of African heritage. His music has garnered international recognition, with his tracks streamed and Shazamed globally.

Notable achievements include having his song "Your Power" named Song of the Week on Ligwalagwala FM. Malcomplicated has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Unlimited Soul, Gudguy, Spirobeats, Shaza, Valee Music, Mzala Wesive, and Veekay. Additionally, he has partnered with the clothing brand UglyBoyzMatter, further expanding his presence.

Despite facing challenges, including unfair treatment by promoters and organisers, as well as being undermined by fellow DJs, Malcomplicated has learned to focus on his craft and persevere through adversity. These challenges have strengthened his resolve to pursue his passion.

Looking ahead, Malcomplicated aspires to create timeless music that heals souls and resonates with generations. He dreams of performing on international stages, establishing a platform to support local artists, and creating an environment where people can freely express themselves through music.

In 2022, Malcomplicated released his album Mythology, featuring 30 tracks that showcased his musical creativity and storytelling prowess. In 2024, he released the highly anticipated Lerato Fela EP, alongside Spiro Beats and Shaza. He also released an EP titled Shaza with Shaza and Spiro Beats, further demonstrating his ability to explore new sounds and collaborations.
