Madou & Doucoura

Bio

Doucoura is a dynamic Malian trio led by master percussionist Djeli Mahamadou Kone, a griot born into a legendary musical lineage in Bamako.

Trained in the tamani (talking drum) and n’goni from the age of six, Mahamadou toured globally for over 20 years with iconic artists like Habib Koité, and recorded music with Toumani Diabaté, and Bassekou Kouyaté. In 2011, he founded Doucour - a group that blends traditional Malian instrumentation with a fresh, contemporary energy.

Doucoura’s sound fuses tamani, doundoun, n’goni, balafon, and vocals into a richly layered, deeply spiritual experience that transcends borders. Currently performing as a tight-knit acoustic trio, Doucoura features Djeli Mahamadou alongside his son Makan “TaTa” Kone and his friend Baden Sora, creating an intimate yet powerful presence on stage. Their performances are a celebration of rhythm, heritage, and innovation.

With honors including the 2023 Akademia Hall of Fame Award and Best World Beat Song (2019), Doucoura continues to captivate audiences around the world with music that bridges generations and cultures.
