Ma LaLa

James Kuchilala is a Malawian musician who was born on 16 July 1985 in Mangochi, Malawi. He never thought of becoming a serious musician up until he was expelled from St. Paul Seminary after writing his Junior Certificate of Education examinations in 2000. While waiting for results, he was introduced to the keyboard and later the guitars by late Jay Kachala while living with his father in Makanjira Police line in Mangochi

He began learning how to play the guitar in 2001 and this was before he enrolled at the Chancellor College of Malawi where he studied music. He worked with a number of musicians while at Chancellor College. He has worked as a guitarist for the Chancellor College Catholic choir. This saw him featuring in albums such as ‘Mundilengere Mtima’ and ‘Munthawi Yake’. He has also worked with Freedom Band of Zomba and Funghai Mutsinze.

He has to date released one album titled 'Tsogolo'. In November 2014, he joined Dikamawoko Arts in order to grow his music. The organisation is pwned by renowned actor and film maker Tawonga Nkhonjera. In May 2015, he released a single called 'Timakonda Magitala'.

Apart from music, he also graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 2009. He was a teacher at a secondary school in Mangochi, Malawi.
