M Young

Bio

M Young is a hip-hop musician and producer from Namibia. In 2005, the 16-year-old musician recorded his debut song, ‘Number One Question’, with the help of producer Big Ben. The track earned a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Song at the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards. In 2006, M Young enrolled for music studies at the College of Arts in Windhoek. After graduation in 2010, he recorded a new single with Big Ben and Fishtone of the Ndilimani Cultural Troupe, but the song was not as successful as his debut.

In 2011 he approached another well-known hip-hop producer, Lucci from 061music. They collaborated on a song titled ‘Where Ma Gals At’, which was released as a single and was well received on radio stations. In 2012, the artist produced a song, ‘Don’t Give Up’, dedicated to a schoolgirl who was raped and killed on her way to school in Windhoek. In May 2013, after eight years in the music industry, he released his debut album, ‘M’khachau.com’ in Katima Mulilo. The title is a slang name for Caprivian people in Namibia. The album consists of seven tracks and featured collaborations with local artists as well as OC from Zambia and Luckyflow from Nigeria. It includes the hit ‘One in a Million’, the video for which enjoyed widespread airplay. The artist has also produced beats for artists in the US, UK, South Africa, Kenya and Namibia.
