Lele Moilwa
Bio
Full name is Lele Moilwa. I am from Kimberley, South Africa, and I play bass guitar and sing. I began making music at the age of six in my hometown. By nineteen, I was performing in clubs, hotels, and concerts. At twenty-one, I moved to Johannesburg, where I worked as a professional musician with Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Nana Coyote, Steve Kekana, and Brenda Fassie. I also gained studio experience from Joe Nina while continuing to perform.
I shared stages with international artists including Najee, Spyro Gyra, Yellowjackets, Eric Clapton, Ray Goodman and Brown, and George Benson. One of my most memorable moments was meeting Nelson Mandela. My career has taken me to England, Oman, Dubai, Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Macau. I lived and worked in Hong Kong for six years alongside musicians from the USA, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Britain.
In 2015, I formed the Solid Bassy Afro Jazz Band in Kimberley with a group of skilled musicians who have also performed with various artists and travelled internationally.
