Lebogang Tswelapele

Lebogang Tswelapele is a South African writer, director, and cultural practitioner whose work explores identity, memory, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities. Born in Hebron, North West, she works across theatre, film, and performance, using multilingual storytelling to bridge indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary artistic expression.

A graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, she holds a BA (Hons) in Dramatic Arts and is completing her Master of Arts in Cultural Policy and Management. Her creative practice is rooted in Pan-Africanism, womanism, and the reclamation of indigenous languages in the arts.

Lebogang has written, directed, and performed in several acclaimed works, including Ishongololo, La Ntshwarele Ngwana, Kedisaletse, Iso ngeso and Hanging Pieces of Flesh. She has collaborated with institutions such as ASSITEJ South Africa, Nal’ibali, the Wits Gender Equity Office, and the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Festival.

Through her company, Tswelapele Creator, she continues to develop socially conscious projects that foreground African narratives, amplify women’s voices, and imagine more equitable futures for the performing arts sector.
