Kvn Grey

Kevin Grey was born on 05 December 1999 in Durban, South Coast, and was raised in the district of Marainhill, in the city's north end. He is the 2nd child of Nelly and Jacob Karnyl.
During Kevin's youth, his mother worked several jobs in order to support the family, including jobs as a maid and a cook. This was alongside attending night school to learn Cooking. Kevin's father abandoned the family when he was a toddler, resulting in Kevin being cared for by his grandmother and mother. While living with his grandmother Kevin learned Zulu, which he also spoke with his mother, and attended Apostolic Orthodox church services. Kevin stated this in an interview regarding his father, "I saw him vaguely when I was six, and then again when I was 11 or 12, and he had a new family and kids. I'm sure he's a great guy. I never judged him. He wasn't abusive; he wasn't an asshole. He just wasn't there."
Kevin self-describes his teenage years as the film "Dope". Kevin states he began smoking marijuana at age 11, and later moved on to harder drugs. Kevin claims he often shoplifted to supplement his use of ecstasy, oxycodone, xanax, psilocybin, and ketamine.
Kevin attended Underburg primary and Phakathi Secondary, Durban, from which he graduated in 2015. Kevin has credited his stage name as being inspired by his second name wich was given to him by his late grandmother, though producer Luis Yerg Deep claims the name was his idea. The spelling was modified in order to avoid trademark issues with the American designer Kevin Grey.
