Kabeaushé
Bio
Born Kabochi Gitau, Kabeaushé is a Kenyan-born singer, rapper, producer and multidisciplinary artist whose work exists at the explosive intersection of experimental pop, performance art, electronic music and theatrical storytelling. Originally from Nairobi and now based in Berlin, Kabeaushé has become one of the most boundary-pushing voices emerging from Africa’s alternative music landscape, creating immersive sonic worlds that blur the lines between music, cinema, fashion and visual art.
Known for his raw stage presence, exaggerated aesthetics and emotionally charged performances, Kabeaushé crafts music that is both chaotic and deeply intentional. Drawing influence from genres as wide-ranging as hip-hop, rock, gospel, French baroque music, electronic experimentation and African popular music traditions like Lingala and Benga, his artistry thrives on contrast, tension and sensory overload. His sound has often been described as overwhelming in the best possible way, balancing beauty, discomfort, satire and vulnerability within one expansive creative universe.
At the centre of his recent work is the fictional character Herr Iggy, an egomaniacal ruler of the imagined Doerf Kingdom, whose rise and collapse unfolds across Kabeaushé’s sophomore album KABEAUSHÉ PRESENTS: IGGY SWAGGERING UNGRATEFUL INCESSANT LITTLE PEEEAAAAAAAA. Through cinematic storytelling inspired by German expressionist films, Stanley Kubrick dramas and theatrical live performance, Kabeaushé uses satire and spectacle to explore themes of power, identity, ego and human fragility.
Since beginning his musical journey in 2015, Kabeaushé has steadily built an international reputation through genre-defying releases and electrifying performances across Europe and Africa. He previously collaborated with Uganda’s influential Nyege Nyege collective and released The Coming Of Gaze through Hakuna Kulala before unveiling his critically acclaimed debut album Hold On To Deer Life, There’s A Black Boy Behind You! via Berlin’s Monkeytown Records. His work has also appeared in acclaimed television series including Queenie and How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast).
With performances at major festivals such as Reeperbahn Festival, Roskilde, Rock En Seine and The Great Escape, Kabeaushé continues to redefine what African alternative music can look and sound like. Equal parts pop disruptor, storyteller and performance architect, he represents a new generation of artists unafraid to challenge form, provoke emotion and turn music into a fully immersive experience.
