Joda

Bio

Joda Kgosi is a musician, born and bred in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is an upcoming singer and songwriter who is very passionate about music and has been singing for most of her life, mainly in school and at church. Though generally referred to as an R&B artist, Joda doesn't want to box herself in terms of genre at this stage. She wants to explore classical music, reggae, jazz and hip hop as she grows as an artist, as these are genres that have largely impacted and influenced her as a musician and significantly influenced her love for music. Joda's favorite musicians include Yebba, Serpentwithfeet, Bob Marley, Joey Bada$$, Beyonce, and locally Roho, Filah Lah Lah and Benzo

A defining voice in the renaissance of South African R&B, her artistry bridges the gap between the golden era of Soul and the sharp, introspective edge of Gen-Z Alternative R&B. Joda has rapidly
transitioned from a viral sensation to a mainstay in the industry, celebrated for her "diary-entry" lyricism and a vocal texture that is both honeyed and haunting.

Her journey began with the undeniable impact of her 2020 breakout singles, "Lunatic" and "Truth Is." The latter became a cultural touchpoint on social media, resonating with a generation hungry for authentic narratives about heartbreak and mental health. This early momentum culminated in her critical selection in the Apple Music Top 100 Songs Of The Year, a prestigious accolade that signaled her arrival as a global-facing talent.

In 2021, Joda released her debut EP, Sour Milk. Far from a standard collection of songs, the project was hailed as a masterclass in sonic vulnerability, blending moody lo-fi production with jazz inflections. The EP solidified her reputation as a "sad girl" R&B icon, capable of turning intimate pain into universal anthems. Tracks like "I Miss You" and "Pity Party" showcased her ability to command a track with subtle, emotive power rather than just vocal gymnastics.

Her artistic evolution reached new heights with her 2025 studio album, Me, Myself and Mind. This project sees Joda stepping into a more mature, experimental soundscape, collaborating with top-tier
producers to explore themes of self-preservation, industry fatigue, and romance. The album features standout tracks like "Fix Me" and "Jetlag," which display her growth in vocal agility and production
curation.

Beyond the studio, Joda is a disciplined performer with a background in choral training, giving her a technical foundation that supports her stylistic choices. She has collaborated with heavyweights in the hip-hop and soul space (including work with MashBeatz), proving her versatility across genres.
Joda Kgosi is not just singing songs; she is archiving the emotions of her listeners. With a discography that boasts millions of streams and a fan base that hangs on her every word, she is a vessel of raw
emotion, poised to take her unique brand of South African Soul to the world stage.
