Jemberu Demeke
Bio
Jemberu Demeke is an Ethiopian rapper, producer, and songwriter known for his genre-bending sound and introspective lyrics. A software engineering graduate from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, Jemberu began his music journey writing English rap, but soon found his authentic voice in Amharic. Embracing his heritage, he created a signature style he calls "tonic fusion"—a mix of trap, hip-hop, reggaeton, phonk, and traditional Ethiopian scales.
His debut EP in 2022 featured collaborations with influential artists like Mulatu Astatke, bridging generational sounds. His sophomore album Esatu Se (2024) further established his identity, thematically rooted in fire, multiplicity, and identity—symbolized by the Amharic letter "ሰ".
Jemberu is a leading figure in Ethiopia’s emerging hip-hop scene, known for fusing modern production with linguistic and cultural depth. He has been featured by OkayAfrica and VOA Africa, and is part of a new wave of East African artists shaping contemporary music with unapologetic self-expression.
