Ivy Kombo

Bio

Ivy Kombo is a Zimbabwean gospel artist based in the UK. She began her career when she was ten. She grew up in Glen View 4 and lost her parents at 5. She and her twin sister were reportedly adopted by Pastor Kasi of the Ezekiel Guti Evangelical Association Gospel Train (EGEA). She did her secondary education at St Johns Chikwaka. She joined her primary school choir at that age. Her passion for music prompted her to join EGEA. The association was led by her foster father, Kasi. The band also fostered artistes such as Jackie Madondo, Carol Mujokoro, Mono Mkundu and many others.

Shortly afterwards, she became director of the Gospel Train Records and co-founder of the Nguva Yakwana Celebrations gospel shows. The shows incorporated South African artistes such as Vuyo Mokoena and Buhle. She joined the Ruvhuvhuto Sisters which included Plaxedes Wenyika, Jackie Madondo and Sister Flame.

In 1993, she released her debut album ‘Mufudzi Wangu’ with the assistance of the EGEA band. Her debut was followed by seven more albums namely: ‘Ndinokudai Jesu’ (1994), ‘Vimbai naJehovha’ (1995), ‘Kutenda’ (1996), ‘Revival Songs’ (1997), ‘Ndaidziwanepi Nyasha’ (1998), ‘Mwari NdiMweya’ (1999), ‘Nyengetera’ (2000), ‘Nguva Yakwana’ (2001), ‘Mufudzi Wangu Special’ (2001), ‘Denga Rinotaura’ (2002) and ‘Handidzokere Shure Volume 1 and 2’ (2003).

Apart from music, she is a Lawyer who graduated with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in International Commercial Law with the University of Bedfordshire in the UK.
