Interregional Music Crossroads


Interregional Music Crossroads is a Malawian event where bands from all over Africa congregate in Blantyre to compete in this popular music contest. It was established in 1996 by JMI. Apart from Malawi, the event was held in Zimbabwe (1996), Mozambique (1998), Malawi (1999), Tanzania (1999) and Zambia (2003). In Malawi, the event has brought over 15 000 musicians.

Winners at this event will be honored with a prestigious tour to Europe. The event promotes self-awareness, initiative, creativity, respect, knowledge and understanding.

It aims to bring people together despite their nationality, gender, religion or social background. The event strongly encourages the participation of young women in music. It hosts relationship workshops which tackle HIV and AIDS related issues during. The platform presents participants with a unique opportunity to discuss sexuality, gender and relationships and learn how to take personal action against the further spread of HIV and AIDS.
