George Ndiritu


George Ndiritu is a performance producer, manager, writer, composer and activist from Nairobi, Kenya.

Ndiritu graduated from Sund Folk College and Bildoy Bible College in Norway where she studied jazz music. He is a fellow of the DeVos Institute of Performing arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Ndiritu has featured as a musician for Eric Wainaina, Babra Guantai, SEMA. He has featured at international concerts in the US, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda.

He is the founding member of YUNASI Band and Gravitti (formerly Heart and Soul) as well as a founder of VOCAL (formerly known as Haba na Haba). VOCAL is a community-based leadership and performing arts programme that has produced such bands as Sarabi, Zikki, Octave. The project has also produced leading Thespians, DJs and Dancers.

Through VOCAL, Ndiritu has established a performing arts exchange programme between Kenyan and international artists. Every year VOCAL receives ten international artists and tutors from the US, Canada and Europe. VOCAL also sends one student annually to study music in Norway.

Ndiritu's work as an activist includes:

• Writing and producing music and videos on matters of social justice, leadership and democracy and climate change.
• Featuring in a documentary film 'Music is Our Weapon'.
• Walking from Kisumu to Nairobi together with artists to mark six years of promulgation of the Kenyan Constitution.
• Curated Hii Chapter ni yetu concert, a platform that highlighted chapter six of the Kenyan constitution.
• Founded Traffic Jam Sessions, a political satire show performed live in Matatus plus Dj mixtapes
• Training 50 artists in Music for change in 2018.
• Producing a protest album in 2018

Ndiritu co-produces the annual PAWA Festival and monthly Nairobi Jam Concerts at the Goethe Institute in Nairobi. He also runs a mentorship and training programme for performing arts artists.
