Gareth Wilson

Bio

Like many others in the music business, Gareth’s journey started as a musician. He was the guitar player and vocalist for rock band Southern Gypsey Queen and toured extensively and full time for 12 years.

His frustrations with his manager and booking agent led to him taking the duty on for his own band with Southern Pulse and it was here that he started to realize that maybe he could add more value behind the scenes than onstage and in no time was looking after the likes of BCUC, Tidal Waves, Shadowclub and many others.

In 2012 Hilltoplive offered him the job as their talent buyer and for many years he booked many prestigious events for them, including festivals like Oppikoppi, Drumbeat, Jacaranda Day, as well as working on support line ups for major international artists like Mumford and Sons and many more.

During his stint at Hilltoplive he also opened the live music venue, The Good Luck Bar in Newtown Joburg and still owns a hip hop bar in Melville called Romeos.

Although he had consulted to record labels for a number of years, Gareth never really saw himself ever going that way until Chris Ghelakis called him in 2020 and asked him to join the A&R team for Electromode Ingrooves where he is today.

His passion for African music and international distribution have taken him all over Africa and has him working with some of the biggest artists our continent has to offer and not just seeing these artists charting on home soil but getting major opportunities  internationally alongside some of the world’s biggest names.
