Falana
Bio
Falana’s music thrives on instinct. Her sound carries the echoes of places that have shaped her–Lagos’ rhythmic pulse, Havana’s acoustic richness, London’s eclectic soul, and Toronto’s global pop. Each city has left its mark not just as a location, but as a sonic homecoming interwoven into her storytelling.
Whether through the sounds of King Sunny Ade, Yoruba gospel, pop, or neo-soul, she found a deep connection to music and performance. On her artistic journey, she moved to Havana to study piano and music. She then continued her exploration in London, gigging and touring. However, her heart was always in Lagos. Upon her return, she has become a notable force in the fashion, music, and art scene.
While writing her sophomore EP ‘Rising,’ she embraced music as a fluid space for storytelling. Fan-favourites like ‘Joy’ and ‘Sweet Adetola’ helped to earn her both critical acclaim and over 1.59 million streams across all streaming platforms. ‘Joy’ also climbed the Afrobeat UK charts, later receiving a remix with Oxlade. The EP itself garnered three nominations at the Nigerian Headies Awards, including Album of the Year.
Beyond her own releases, Falana’s songwriting was featured on the soundtrack for Baloji Tshiani’s debut film Omen (Augere)--which premiered at the Cannes Festival in 2023. With cosigns from the renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and frequent collaborations with Global Citizen, without a doubt, Falana continues to expand the reach of her voice. Both a magnetic and captivating performer, she has brought her music to stages worldwide. Supporting Adekunle Gold on his North American tour, opening for Asa in Lagos and the UK, and enchanting crowds at Central Park SummerStage, Falana makes every lyric come to life on the stage.
