Empress Nyiringango

Empress Nyiringango is a multilingual and Rwandan singer-songwriter who blends Rwandan traditional music with contemporary influences. She is the creator of the self-coined "Jablur" sound, which stands for Jazz, Blues, and Rwandan traditional rhythms. This distinctive fusion features an old ritual instrument, which she wishes to bring out of oblivion: the Inanga, a zither with strong symbolism for the peoples of the great lakes of Africa. Her third album, Ubuntu has been nominated for the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards as the Global Roots Album of the Year. Her forthcoming single, Wihohora is a sound track of a new Canadian film titled "It comes In Waves", which was officially premiered at the Black American Film Festival in June 2025 in Miami, USA.
