Edith WeUtonga Katiji
Bio
Edith WeUtonga Katiji is a multifaceted Zimbabwean award-winning musician, bassist, singer, songwriter, and actress based in the UK. She's the founding president of the Zimbabwe Musicians Union (ZIMU) and currently serves as Vice President of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), a role she was re-elected to, solidifying her position as a global music industry leader.
Edith has released three acclaimed albums - "Utonga" (2010), "Kwacha" (2013), and "Madalitso" (2018) - blending Afro-jazz, traditional Zimbabwean music, and global influences . She has headlined festivals in Zimbabwe and other African countries.
She's a recipient of the prestigious Nyrkki Award from the Finnish Musicians' Union for her significant work in the music industry and advocacy for musicians' rights.
Edith runs a music community development program called Pamodzi-Issiyo, in collaboration with Japanese colleagues, Midlands State University, and high schools in Harare, focusing on empowering women in music and young girls in schools.
Edith holds a Master of Arts degree in Music in Development from SOAS University of London, a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Music Business, Musicology, and Technology from the Midlands State University, and an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the Quantic School of Business.
Edith also works with One World Orchestra, delivering music therapy sessions in communities across to the UK.
