Dr Juicy

Bandile Masinda, affectionately known as Dr Juicy, is a seasoned South African artist known for his rich musical expression rooted in traditional, cultural, and soul-infused genres. A vibrant and inspiring figure, he continues to shine as a storyteller through song, connecting generations through his message and music. Dr Juicy started music at an early age, while he was attending school at Thembile Primary School, it started by creating a self-made guitar, then his uncle taught him how to play drums, ended up playing drums for his band. He also Played for other bands like Jungle Cats, Soul Crackers, The Incredible, Just to mention a few. He was then recruited by Badiri to come and play Bass Guitar, he performed around Botswana, he also joined Medu Cultural Ensemble where He worked with Jonas Gwangwa and shared the stage with Hugh Masekela, Dennis Mpale, Tony Cydrus, and Steve Dryer just to mention a few. After the band disbanded, Dr Juicy remained in Botswana with a band called Shakawe. He went to Angola for Military Training, while he was in Exile he subsequently joined uMkhonto weSizwe’s fighting Force and received military training. He soon became a physical – training instructor and then head of their Department of Arts and Culture.

Coming back to SA he started a band called Vula and it took part in the voters education, a program run by IEC in 1993. In 1995 I integrated with The SANDF and was in the army band. In 2001 I left the army band and recorded my first album in Pretoria featuring Rudolph Mamabolo on Keyboard The Album Called Tokolosi.

Dr Juicy later recorded an album with Lungelo Monti called ‘Don’t Be a failure’ which was uploaded on Reverb Nation. With a commanding presence and a voice seasoned by life and experience, Dr Juicy represents not just rhythm, but resilience - bridging the wisdom of elders with the energy of now. His sound carries the spirit of the soil - spiritual, groovy, and unapologetically South African.
