Bio
Dounia Batma born 1 April 1991, is a Moroccan singer and actress who rose to fame as the runner-up of the first season of Arab Idols. Born and raised in Casablanca, she comes from a musically prominent family, including her father Hamid Batma and her uncle Laarbi Batma, leader of the influential Moroccan fusion group Nass El Ghiwane.
Batma began her career competing in local music contests, such as Studio 2M, before auditioning for Arab Idols in 2011. Her powerful vocal performances, covering classical Arabic, pop, and Gulf music, quickly made her a favorite on the show, where she impressed judges with renditions of songs by legends like Umm Kulthum and Talal Maddah. She finished second to Egyptian contestant Carmen Suleiman.
Following Arab Idols, Batma was signed by Saudi label Platinum Records, which praised her voice as “rare.” She continues to pursue a musical career across the Arab world while maintaining a strong connection to Moroccan music and culture.
