Sabelo Mtshali, known professionally as DJ Sabby, is a South African radio host, DJ, and TV presenter whose career reflects steady growth, versatility, and a deep connection with audiences. He is widely respected for his engaging on-air presence and his influence within the country’s urban media landscape.
His broadcasting journey began in 2010 when he joined the Y-Academy as an intern, where he developed his foundational skills in radio. Two years later, in 2012, he earned his first official show on YFM, hosting Adrenaline Rush, a graveyard slot from 00:00 to 03:00. This opportunity marked the start of his rise within the station.
By 2013, DJ Sabby had progressed to the weekend lineup, taking over The Weekend Shakeup, where he continued to build his profile and connect with a broader audience. His breakthrough moment came in 2014 when he moved into the afternoon drive slot and introduced The Best Drive, a show that quickly became one of the station’s standout programmes. His charisma, consistency, and understanding of youth culture played a key role in the show’s success.
After dedicating a full decade to YFM, DJ Sabby hosted his final show on 26 March 2021, closing an important chapter of his career. Shortly after, in April 2021, he joined Metro FM, where he initially hosted the Metro FM Top 40 on Saturdays. His journey at the station continued to evolve, leading to his role as host of The Bridge in 2022, and eventually landing one of the most coveted slots in radio. Since April 2023, he has been the voice behind the breakfast show, Best Mornings, where he continues to energize and inform listeners nationwide.
Beyond radio, DJ Sabby has also expanded into television, including work with MTV Base Africa, further showcasing his range as a presenter. His career stands as a testament to persistence, growth, and a commitment to excellence in the South African entertainment industry.
