DJ Mumba

Born Sydwell Lawrence Chauke in the municipality of Chavani, Malamulele (in Limpopo, South Africa), DJ Mumba grew up in a region steeped in Xitsonga‑culture and township energy. His upbringing in this cultural environment helped shape his musical sensibilities, grounding him in traditional rhythms while exposing him to the dance and upbeat vibes of township life, a duality that would later inform his unique sound.

Born with a passion for sound and dance floors, DJ Mumba emerged as a music producer and DJ working within the Tsonga disco / Xitsonga‑influenced house music scene. He began releasing music at least as early as 2022 with his album Aniti Endli N'wananga (2022), and followed up with a string of singles and EPs through 2023–2025 that expanded his reach and showcased his evolution as an artist. 

Born to blend tradition and modernity, DJ Mumba’s music often merges Xitsonga‑rooted rhythms and melodies with contemporary house and dance beats. In 2025 he released the single Dimoni (feat. Dr. Sunglen Chabalala), which exemplifies his commitment to fusing soulful vocals with energetic production, a signature of his style. As he continues to build his catalog and grow his presence, DJ Mumba stands out as a rising voice bridging cultural heritage and modern South African dance music.
