DJ MASTER JAZZY DEE

Bio

Master Jazzy Dee is a veteran South African club DJ, music producer, and compilation specialist with over four decades of experience in the music industry. Renowned for his deep understanding of house music and dance culture, he has earned a reputation as both a dynamic performer and an influential figure in the South African club scene.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, Jazzy Dee grew up in a musically inspired family. His late mother, Susan Nieveldt, was a jazz and gospel vocalist, while his uncle, Lovey Fredericks, was a member of the 1970s pop group The Prumes. Surrounded by music from an early age, he naturally gravitated towards DJing and sound culture.

Jazzy Dee began performing at local parties and community events at the age of 14, as he was too young for nightclubs. By 1980, he had entered the club scene, quickly becoming a sought-after DJ. His first nightclub residency came in 1982 at the legendary Godfather Night Club, followed by performances at renowned venues including Cosy Nest, Crown Heights Affair, and Club TC, establishing him as a household name among club-goers.

Family obligations temporarily drew him away from DJing, leading him to work aboard his father’s fishing trawler. This period of travel across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe exposed him to international DJs and diverse musical styles, broadening his creative vision and influencing his signature sound.

Returning to South Africa in 1990, Jazzy Dee settled in Johannesburg, where the club scene was flourishing. Drawing on his global experience, he quickly regained prominence, performing at top venues and forging key connections within the entertainment industry.

In 1991, he released his first remix compilation, Jazzy’s Groove, cementing his status as one of the country’s leading remix DJs. He continued to release successful compilations such as House Slammaz, Club Classics, and Mzansi House 4 Sure, becoming a trusted and respected name in South African house music.

Throughout his career, Master Jazzy Dee has collaborated with and performed alongside industry icons including Black Coffee, DJ Fresh, DJ Christos, Vinni Da Vinci, DJ Spinna, Louis Vega, Steve “Silk” Hurley, and Quentin Harris, connecting with both local and international house music communities.

As the founder of Jazzy Dee Productions, he remains deeply involved in all aspects of his craft—from studio production and remixing to live performances and compilation projects—continuing to shape the evolution of house music culture in South Africa.

Today, Master Jazzy Dee performs at clubs, festivals, corporate events, and private celebrations, bringing decades of experience, unmatched passion, and an unmistakable presence to the dance floor.
