DJ Lolo

Bio

Born 5 April 1992, Wendy Ndlangamandla, popularly known by her stage name DJ Lolo, is popular female DJ in Swaziland. Her educational voyage got on track in 1999 at Matsapha Government Primary School where she took up her grade to 7 studies. Her love for music prompted her to regard music as her career. Lolo grew up in a single parent home setting, with her sisters and a brother. Her love for music began in 2011. Her career grew and she began performing outside the country. Despite working in a male dominated industry, Lolo oozes a lot of confidence when she is on the turntables and one would be mistaken to think a male DJ is running the show.

In 2009, she met DJ Mongi Mafaka, who was the resident DJ at Ocean Waves that time who taught her the basics of deejaying. Her stint with Ocean Waves was short lived as she had to work in a Law firm as a secretary. This did not deter her from pursuing her new ‘found love’ as she later met DJ Mseto on social networking site, Facebook. Mseto promised to teach her all she needed to know about disk jockeying. Mesto, a resident DJ at Changeroom Club at Sidwashini kaQobonga invited her to watch them play and she slowly grasped what it meant to be a DJ. She also met other wheel spinners, Ndura, Pilato and Fk who were all willing to teach her how to play. Her break came in 2011 when she was booked for the first time at China City, Ocean Waves, Tinkers, Egg Yolk and all over the country.

DJ Lolo won the NACA Best DJ of the Year Award, an award that ruffled feathers as DJ Nyd, a local DJ, criticised her capabilities on social media. She is the first female DJ to take home such an award. She has been in the industry for a few years but has managed to get prominent shows in the country and beyond, while DJ Nyd has been in the industry longer.
