Director Sozo
Entrepreneur | Creative | Founder of Sozo Property Consultants Ltd
Beneath the name “Director Sozo” and a vibrant social media presence lies a powerful story of resilience, resourcefulness, and relentless hustle — the journey of Ugandan entrepreneur Umaru Kaye. His biography isn’t just a record of achievements; it’s a living testament to what’s possible when adversity meets ambition.
Roots in Bweyogerere: Foundations Forged in Adversity
Born in 1995 in the Bweyogerere suburbs of Wakiso District, Umaru’s childhood was marked by profound challenges. Losing his father, the late Ssalongo Ahmed Buule, at just 10 years old left a void that would shape the trajectory of his life. Raised by his mother, Nakayenga Margret, Umaru quickly stepped into a world that demanded more than just dreams — it demanded action.
His educational journey reflected this turbulence. Having attended over 100 schools, including St. Augustine SS (Nakifuma), St. John’s SS, and Bweyogerere Standard High School, Umaru experienced firsthand the instability that defined much of his youth. Formal higher education never took root — instead, he enrolled in the school of life, where survival itself was the curriculum.
The School of Hard Knocks: Hustle as a Way of Life
After his father’s passing, Umaru began working to support his education. By the age of 10, he was a street vendor in Bweyogerere. That early hustle quickly evolved into a nationwide pursuit — hawking goods across Uganda’s central, eastern, northern, and western regions. This wasn’t just commerce — it was immersion in the heartbeat of his country. The road became his classroom, the people his teachers.
In 2007, a spiritual turning point occurred when Umaru became a born-again Christian, grounding his growing ambition with a renewed sense of purpose and faith.
From Broker to Builder: The Birth of Director Sozo
In 2013, Umaru took his first formal step into real estate as a broker. His hustle translated into results — selling countless properties, gaining ground-level experience, and observing a crucial market gap: many property clients lacked basic household items.
This insight became a springboard. In 2017, he launched his own real estate business, which evolved into Sozo Property Consultants Limited, formally registered in 2020. The name “Director Sozo” was born — a brand that would soon become synonymous with innovative thinking, accessibility, and trust.
Pandemic Pivot: Turning Crisis into Breakthrough
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global markets in 2020, many froze. Not Umaru. Seeing opportunity amid the chaos, he pivoted — scaling up operations and embracing digital platforms. He diversified to address the same household needs he’d identified years before, turning a single business into a multi-billion-shilling enterprise.
It was this bold move — a mix of timing, grit, and strategic foresight — that elevated Sozo Property Consultants into the spotlight and cemented Director Sozo’s reputation as a trailblazer in Uganda’s real estate space.
