dawgVille
Bio
dawgVille, born Thanyani Dennis Ntelane, is a 20-year-old South African artist based in Clayville, Tembisa. Active in the music scene since the age of 15, he has steadily developed a reputation as a multifaceted creative, blending music, film, and fashion into a cohesive artistic vision.
His creative foundation was shaped early through a deep appreciation for literature, particularly novels that sparked his imagination. A defining influence was Fish in the Sky by Fridrick Erlings, a childhood favourite that would later inform both his artistic identity and thematic direction. His musical journey began around age 12, when he experimented with freestyle recordings alongside his younger cousin, sharing early work on SoundCloud.
A pivotal moment came at 13 when he connected with UK-based artist Buji Baddo, who introduced him to introspective rap and encouraged a more intentional approach to songwriting. This mentorship marked the transition from casual experimentation to purposeful artistry.
At 15, he debuted under the alias Dawg Shxt, a name that reflected his raw and energetic artistic identity at the time, releasing Outside Space, followed by In My Image and Wabi-Sabi. His final release under this name, Thi$ Lo$t LoVe, surpassed 3,000 streams, signalling early momentum. At 17, he rebranded to dawgVille, reflecting artistic maturity and a refined sonic direction.
During this period, he founded Demonz in the Backseat Records and signed artist Neuro.mantic, releasing Folie à Deux under the imprint. Expanding into visual storytelling, he founded Demonz in the Backseat Films, producing a cinematic music film for the same project. He also delivered his first live performance that year.
Subsequent releases include the EP Speak Softly, Love., featuring standout track D.W.S.T.S..., and the visually driven abstract hip-hop single Fish in the Sky. The release marked the early development of his signature sound - conceptual, cinematic, abstract, moody, introspective and emotionally layered. In 2025, he released It Pains Me, but... and the eight-track EP September., both reinforcing his evolving sound and commitment to narrative-driven visuals.
That same year, dawgVille shot, directed and edited a cinematic music film for artist Flanity’s Bonkers, which received praise for its originality and message. dawgVille also shot, directed and edited a laid-back, abstract music video for artist Neuro.mantic's A Gee's Solace.
In 2026, he continued his upward trajectory with the 11-track EP Sunset City., alongside live performances and visual collaborations, including work for Lil Steelers and an animated video for Hold You Tight. in collaboration with PlanetCore Animations. He also appeared on fellow artist YK Gxxdie’s Kompo Nigga Deluxe album on the track ‘Drip’ .
Beyond music, dawgVille has entered the fashion space through Demonz in the Backseat merchandise. With a growing catalogue and multidisciplinary approach, he continues to craft a body of work defined by atmosphere, emotional depth, and cinematic storytelling, positioning himself for broader recognition on platforms such as Music in Africa.
