Damo Mokgatla

Bio

Damo Mokgatla (born Thabiso Montse) is a multi-ethnic instrumentalist from South Africa.

Mokgatla has been learning and exploring different ethnic music instruments, sound, and researching about the history of sound therapy.

He draws his inspiration from his mother, who is deeply rooted in the Setswana culture. Mokgatla plays different ethnic music instruments such as a didgeridoo, berimbao, jaw harp and the uddu drum.

Mokgatla has performed at many events in Johannesburg including Born to be Famous competition, where he came out first.

As of 2020, he was practicing as a sound facilitator at Damo Foundation Wellness Centre. He has also performed at the Salon De la Culture in Reunion Island and subsequently went on a residence project in Bassano Del Grappa in Italy.

Damo sees himself as a music medicine man than just an entertainer.
