Coloured Elimhlophe

Bio

Babini Samuel Ngqikiza, professionally known as Coloured Elimhlophe, is a South African artist whose life and music are deeply rooted in resilience, heritage, and cultural expression.

Born on March 9, 1990, at Sipetu Hospital in Ntabankulu, Eastern Cape, Babini grew up in the rural village of Dumsi, where he was raised in a close-knit family environment. As the youngest child, he was shaped by both love and loss—guided by his sister, Thembeka Ngqikiza, and deeply impacted by the early passing of his sibling, Nontsikelelo. His parents, Thenjiwe Zikizela and Sakhiwo Albert Ngqikiza, instilled strong values of perseverance, respect, and responsibility, which continue to influence his journey today.

Early Life and Education

Babini began his education in Dumsi village, where he developed a strong curiosity and passion for learning. In 2009, he relocated to Johannesburg (Bekkersdal) to continue his high school education. This transition exposed him to a new urban environment and diverse cultural experiences.

However, due to financial challenges within his extended family, Babini made the difficult decision to leave school and enter the workforce in order to support his household. Although his formal education was interrupted, this period became instrumental in shaping his resilience, discipline, and sense of responsibility.

Musical Beginnings

Babini’s musical journey began when he joined a group called AMA Ben Ten, alongside:

Khalembangweni (Aphelele Sataka)

Dhyasimanikiniki (Monde Galagala)

Together, they released their debut album Uvalo, a 10-track project that reflected their shared creativity and life experiences. The album marked an important milestone, earning recognition and forming a strong foundation for Babini’s artistic identity.

Despite their success, the group later disbanded due to personal and professional commitments. Nevertheless, the experience left a lasting impact on Babini’s musical direction.

Professional Music Career

After losing his job at Harmony Gold’s Cooke 3 Shaft in 2010, Babini fully committed himself to music.

In 2019, he released his debut solo album Siyabonga Baba, featuring collaborations with Dhyasimanikiniki and Phiwokuhle. Although the project received limited initial support, it marked his official entry as a solo artist.

In 2020, his career gained significant momentum when he was featured by the legendary Utata Unqabukuwela. This collaboration introduced him to a broader audience, particularly through the song “iColoured Elimhlophe”, which helped define his artistic identity.

In 2022, he released his second album, Muons, further establishing his presence in the industry through continued collaborations.

In 2024, he released the EP Make More Fame, recorded at Mex Mak Media. The project features five dynamic tracks, including collaborations with renowned artist Dr. Buselaphi:

“Inkomo Zamalobola”

“Jali Ka Mpuku”

Hit single “Inyanga Yam”

The EP generated significant attention, earning him interviews on multiple local radio stations and expanding his audience.

Additionally, his collaboration with Amapiano artist DJ Abza on the track “Umona” gained traction, with the music video trending on KZN TV.
