Dr Charl du Plessis is a distinguished South African pianist whose career seamlessly bridges the worlds of classical mastery and jazz improvisation. Recognised as one of only five South African Steinway Artists, he has earned international acclaim for his virtuosity and his innovative approach to "crossover" music.

His formal accolades include four South African Music Awards (SAMAs)—most notably winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 for his Baroqueswing series—as well as Ghoema and Fiësta awards for his instrumental contributions. A versatile performer, Charl has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Berlin’s Philharmonie, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

For over 22 years, Charl has been the enduring musical partner to iconic South African singer-songwriter Nataniël, performing in hundreds of shows that blend storytelling with sophisticated arrangements. This collaborative spirit also led to the formation of the Charl du Plessis Trio in 2006. Alongside bassist Werner Spies and drummer Peter Auret, the trio has spent two decades reimagining everything from Bach to the Beatles, celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2026 with a series of reflective performances and new recordings.
