Cairo CPT
Bio
Cairo CPT is a South African music producer and DJ from Cape Town whose work becomes closely associated with the fusion of gqom, gospel influences and bass-driven electronic music. He is born Jason Gxotiwe and grows up in a home where music plays a central role. During his school years he participates in youth choirs, gumboots dance and talent competitions. These early experiences deepen his interest in rhythm, harmony and performance.
He begins his creative journey through hip hop, experimenting with rapping and beat-making before transitioning into gqom production. As he develops his sound, he introduces gospel melodies, warm chords and choral textures into the hard, percussive structure of gqom. This blend becomes his signature and helps shape a style many listeners describe as Gqospel.
Cairo CPT starts releasing music around 2018 and steadily gains attention for this distinctive approach. His productions stand out for their emotional tone and their ability to evoke both spiritual reflection and dance-floor energy. This contrast becomes one of the defining features of his work.
His second studio album Love and Light strengthens his reputation and positions him as one of the leading voices shaping modern gqom. The project receives strong support from listeners and introduces him to a wider national audience. He follows the album with World of Sgubhu, a project that further explores the connection between traditional township rhythms, gospel phrasing and contemporary club music.
In interviews he often describes his creative process as intuitive and rooted in feeling. He prefers to allow vocalists and collaborators to respond naturally to his beats, which results in songs that sound spontaneous yet deeply expressive. His music frequently carries themes of hope, community and upliftment.
Cairo CPT continues to perform, collaborate and refine his sound. Through his work he plays an important role in expanding the possibilities of gqom and in presenting a Cape Town identity that blends spirituality, resilience and celebration. His influence is felt across a growing wave of producers who look to fuse emotional storytelling with the raw energy of local dance music.
