Bumble Bee SA

Bio

Bumble Bee SA, born Thabi Sofie Mokatse, is a 26-year-old R&B singer, songwriter, and fashion designer from Ga-Maja Koppermyn, just outside Polokwane. Known for her heartfelt lyrics and emotionally rich sound, Bumble Bee SA uses music as a tool for healing, empowerment, and social change.

Raised in Ga-Maja Koppermyn, Thabi discovered her love for music while singing in Sunday school at the Zion Christian Church. Although music was not initially a serious pursuit, her late mother often told her that she saw a bright future for her in the music industry. Those words became a lasting source of motivation.

In 2018, Thabi moved to Soshanguve to live with her late sister. During this time, she met musicians and began recording songs in a local studio. While many of these tracks were created during the COVID-19 period and remained unreleased, they helped shape her artistic identity and deepen her commitment to music.

Before her mother's passing, Bumble Bee SA released her single "Dlozilami" featuring Lamore Beats SA. After this loss, music became her refuge and emotional outlet. Determined to honor her mother's belief in her potential, she dedicated herself fully to her craft.

Bumble Bee SA's sound is rooted primarily in R&B, inspired by international icons Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé, as well as South African favorites Blaq Diamond and Cici. She especially relates to Cici's resilience and ability to overcome personal hardship.

Drawing from her own experiences, including surviving abuse and emotional trauma, Bumble Bee SA creates music that speaks to healing, self-worth, and perseverance. She believes artists are human beings who face challenges like everyone else, and she aims to make music that comforts listeners and reminds them of their value.

Beyond music, Thabi is also a fashion designer, bringing creativity and personal expression into every aspect of her work.

As she enters a new chapter in her career, Bumble Bee SA is managed by Tshepiso James Kwakwa through the Cultural Fusion Art Connection Movement. She is currently developing new material with producer Yendor & Lamore Beats SA with a focus on creating impactful music while championing awareness around mental health and gender-based violence (GBV).

For Bumble Bee SA, music is more than entertainment — it is therapy, purpose, and a platform to inspire others. Through her artistry, she hopes to heal her inner child, uplift her audience, and give voice to the realities facing young people in South Africa and beyond.
