Bulawayo Music Festival

Bio

The Bulawayo Music Festival was founded by Michael Bullivant in 1997. Its debut event was in April 1997. Its events are staged by the Zimbabwe Academy of Music. The event focuses on a number of classical concerts which feature international musicians but also includes other forms of music in a parallel series of concerts. It features children who participate in some of the major concerts.

Apart from performing at the festival, musicians visit and perform in schools in and around Bulawayo. The event has faced challenges in 2002 due to the political and economic state of the country. Since 2006 festivals have been held every two years. The festival has received support from organisations such as NMB Bank, Sandvik Mining and Construction, Australian Embassy, Beit Trust, British Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music, British Council, Alliance Française de Bulawayo and local supporters.
