Bucie
Bio
Bucie, born Busisiwe Nolubabalo Nqwiliso in Kimberley and raised in Klerksdorp, is a South African singer and songwriter recognised as one of the leading voices in house and Afro-soul. She developed her talent in church choirs before studying music at Central Johannesburg College, where she was discovered by producer Demor Sikhosana. Under his mentorship she released her debut single “Ngicelindoda” in 2007, which introduced her as a rising vocalist in the local house scene.
Her national breakthrough came through her collaborations with Black Coffee. Their 2009 single “Turn Me On” gained international traction, and their follow-up track “Superman” became a defining song in South African house. The song later reached global audiences when it was sampled by Drake, further cementing her influence beyond local stages.
Bucie went on to release several albums, including Rockstar, Princess of House and Rebirth. Her 2014 single “Easy to Love” became one of her most celebrated songs and strengthened her status as a leading contemporary vocalist. Her catalog reflects a distinctive blend of soulful delivery, emotional depth and an intuitive feel for dance music production.
After stepping away from the spotlight to focus on her family and personal growth, Bucie returned to music with renewed purpose. She continues to record, perform and develop new work while using her platform to support emerging talent and women in the industry.
Bucie remains an influential figure whose voice shaped a generation of South African house music, contributing to the genre’s popularity across the continent and its recognition on the global stage.
