Brymo

Bio

Brymo (Olawale Ashimi Ibrahim) is a Nigerian singer-songwriter. He was born in Lagos in 1986 and attended Ajangbadi High School at Agege in Lagos. In secondary school, he and a few friends formed a band named 'Aliens'.

He recorded his first single and album 'Brymstone' in 2005 and 2008 respectively. His first hit being the single "Shawdy" in 2008, which got to No.1 on the MTV BASE charts. He signed with Chocolate City Records in 2010 and broke through into International limelight, singing the chorus on Ice Prince's mega hit single "Oleku" (2010.) In 2011, he released his hit solo single 'Ara' under the Chocolate City label. A legal wrangle between label and artist prevented further albums from release. The Federal High Court lifted an injunction against him by the label years later, paving the way for subsequent albums.

On October 1, 2013 Brymo released his first single as an independent artiste titled 'Down' and was followed by his third studio album, his first as an independent artiste. The album, titled 'Merchants, Dealers & Slaves (M, D & S)' was released on 20 October 2013. It met critical acclaim. Brymo has said, "The album was inspired by happenings all around Africa, especially his home country Nigeria."

in 2014, he released 'Tabula Rasa'. Again, the album was highly acclaimed. Brymo claimed the Songwriter of The Year at the All Africa Music Awards same year for 'Down' from MDS, his preceding album.

In 2015, he released 'Trance', his first international album. The 9-tracker is a compilation of songs from his initial albums.
