Bongani Dee Da Poet

Bongani Dingiswayo Masondo, professionally known as Bongani Dee Da Poet, is a South African poet, writer, and cultural storyteller from Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal. Renowned for his ability to weave faith, life experiences, and Zulu heritage into compelling verse, he has emerged as a powerful voice dedicated to preserving tradition through the art of spoken word.

His journey into poetry began at the age of fifteen, when he discovered the transformative power of words as a medium for expression, reflection, and cultural preservation. From 2015 onwards, he was mentored by esteemed literary figures Sibusiso Mazibuko and Bheki Sibiya, whose guidance helped shape his artistic identity, refine his craft, and instil the discipline that continues to define his work.

Bongani's career was built from humble beginnings, performing for friends, local audiences, and community gatherings. He gradually earned recognition through appearances at weddings, traditional ceremonies, and cultural celebrations, where poetry remains an integral part of storytelling, remembrance, and communal identity. These formative experiences allowed him to develop a distinctive style rooted in authenticity and cultural pride.

Throughout his journey, he has collaborated with fellow poet and writer Cebisa, forming creative partnerships that further enriched his artistry and expanded his reach within the literary community.

In 2021, Bongani released two significant works, "Umthandazo Wehlanya" and "Umshado", poems that explore themes of prayer, love, spirituality, and cultural identity. Both pieces showcase his ability to balance contemporary relevance with deep respect for tradition, resonating with audiences across generations.

His commitment to celebrating and preserving indigenous culture through poetry earned him a nomination for Best Poet at the Mzansi Traditional & Cultural Music Awards (MTCMA) 2026. The nomination stands as recognition of an artist whose work bridges the gap between heritage and modern expression.
