Blacklez

Lesego Moiloa, better known by his stage name Blaklez, is a South African rapper, journalist, songwriter, TV show producer, and humanitarian from Bothithong (Northern Cape) who was raised in Queenswood, Pretoria East. He is highly regarded as a leading voice in the Pretoria hip-hop scene.

Moiloa's induction into the music realm began in journalism: he interned with HYPE magazine in 2007 and later worked there full-time, writing about the era's major hip-hop acts – an early phase that greatly helped shape his profile as both a wordsmith and a scenebuilder. He performed in local collectives, such as The Anvils, before building a solo career.

Blaklez issued his debut album, Black Beast, in 2013; the set generated the singles "Hush" and "Don't Be Scared", which helped him gain a national audience. He followed with A Broken Man's Dream in 2015 and Baby Brother in 2019, projects mixing introspective lyricism with more upbeat, crowd-ready tracks. His album Loyal To The Soil (2023) continues that trajectory.

Key singles associated with Blaklez's catalogue include "Freedom or Fame" and the remix featuring Reason and PRO, "Saka Nyuka" featuring Cassper Nyovest, and "Dladisa Letheka", a DJ Maphorisa collaboration; streaming platforms and video channels show these tracks among his most-played recordings.

Blaklez is also known for collaborations and a fruitful creative partnership with fellow Pretoria rapper PdotO: the duo released the joint Lost Diamonds project, and they have frequently featured on one another's records and live bills. His work balances socially aware reflective material with songs made for large stages and radio.
