Black Labone
Bio
Black Labone is a weekly artistic event that has its roots in the spirit of Pretoria's artistic community. Poets, musicians, dancers, DJs, visual artists, and cultural workers have gathered there to share and heal as a sacred space. Black Labone, which started out as a straightforward open mic night, has grown into one of the biggest weekly arts festivals on the continent, drawing hundreds of people to the South African State Theatre every Thursday. Black Labone imagines a thriving, diverse, and community-driven cultural environment in which art functions as a vehicle for social opposition, spiritual rejuvenation, and group healing. It is a festival as well as a movement that acknowledges the act of coming together as a journey and creativity as a sacred practice.
