Bene Mukuni Ceremony

Bio

Bene Mukuni Ceremony is an event held by the Bene Mukuni people in the Southern Province of Zambia. The ceremony is held annually between the months of August to October and is known throughout the world because of its tourist norms. The event is presided over by Chef Mukuni which relives the trek of his tribe from the Congo area to Victoria Falls in the 17th century. Quite a number of cultural activities such as traditional songs, dancing and drum beating take place at this event. In 2013, His Excellency Mr. Zhou Yuxiao, the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia together with his wife Mme. Wu Jihong attended the Bene Mukuni Ceremony in Livingstone.

The Bene Mukuni Ceremony commemorates their journey in the 17th century from Kola (present day Congo) to where they settled near Victoria Falls. They reenact their historical stories through song and dance, and most of them have amazing parallels to biblical principles.
