Born Mathlatse Stephen Seshibe (4 October 1996) also known as Basso-Relievo is a native of Kempton Park, Gauteng. He is a South African rapper, who has become a rising force in independent hip-hop with his raw talent, soulful artistry, and entrepreneurial spirit. Basso’s journey began early and his love for hip-hop took root in high school, where he studied visual arts and business studies, finding creative inspiration that would later shape his career. With his undeniable talent, business acumen, and deep passion for the culture, his first foray into music came in 2014, when he joined forces with childhood friends to form a group called "Artcore". They started writing, recording, and performing together, gaining recognition through breaktime cyphers and local gigs. The crew had evolved into 1619 Records, marking a new chapter in Basso’s career. He co-founded the acclaimed independent record label 1619 Records in 2017 alongside high school friends and childhood collaborators. The label has since become a cornerstone of the Kempton Park music scene, showcasing homegrown talent and fostering a loyal community of fans. Basso-Relievo is carving out a legacy as one of South Africa’s most impactful hip-hop artists. For him, the journey is just beginning.
