Bio
BandaBanda is a Durban-based South African singer, musician, and creative entrepreneur, widely recognised for his mastery of the bass and his ability to fuse deep-rooted African musical traditions with contemporary global soundscapes. His exceptional skill has earned him the nickname the “King of the Bass.”
Early Life & Influences
Raised in KwaZulu-Natal, BandaBanda’s upbringing strongly shaped his musical style. Over the years, he has been influenced, inspired, and mentored by renowned artists including Bheki Mseleku, Hugh Masekela, and Thandiswa Mazwai. He studied at Natal Technikon, where he trained alongside notable talents such as Black Coffee and Zakes Bantwini.
Music Career
BandaBanda began his professional journey in 2014 as lead vocalist and bass guitarist for BandaBanda & The Crocodiles. The band released their debut album, Africado, in 2020, which was followed by a live tour showcasing their signature blend of African rhythms and contemporary styles.
In 2015, he founded the BandaBanda Agency, a platform dedicated to event curation and artist development, further cementing his role as a creative entrepreneur.
In 2025, BandaBanda launched his solo career with the debut album Zinza, featuring collaborations with prominent artists such as Fatoumata Diawara and Zoe Modiga, the latter of whom he also manages.
