Amleset Abay

Amleset Abay is an Eritrean Tigrigna singer whose famous songs include 'Deqise neyre tebarabire' - to mean 'I was asleep for a while but I am now conscious'. The song was political in nature , and was widely broadcast in Ethiopia and Eritrea before the Ethiopian government understood the meaning behind the song. The message behind the song was 'I may have been asleep but don't take me for granted'. Her songs were recently reproduced by Helen Meles and played in weddings and other occasions in Eritrea.
