Alexander Gelfand
Bio
I'm a journalist and writer based in New York City. My work, which ranges from music and travel writing to personal essays and science journalism, has appeared in outlets such as the New York Times, the Economist, and the Guardian. I hold a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and have taught jazz, world music, and West African drumming at the college level. My travel memoir, Broken Rhythm, which describes the time my wife and I spent in a small town in rural Ghana studying a form of traditional West African drumming, will be published next year by Running Wild Press.
