Abrewa Nana

Bio

Born in 1980, Abrewa Nana (real name Dorcas Opoku Dakwa) is a Ghanaian performing artist. The songwriter, dancer and singer was born to Isaac and Juliana Dakwa and was raised motly by the latter. A fascination with R&B stars Aaliyah and Mariah Carey got the young Dorcas turned to music and by polytechnic she had begun to pen songs.

In 2000, she released her debut album, Sogoa, and almost immediately became a national figure. The album was nominated in three categories at the Ghana Music Awards. Abrewa won the award’s trophy for Hiplife Song of the Year in 2001; in 2002 she won best vocalist at the same award show.

Her second album African Girl was released in 2002 and won an award at the Ghana Music Awards UK. Two years later ‘Maba’, the third album, followed. She became one of judges of the West Africa Idols TV show.
